  Duncan Cameron went to live with his uncle, James Thomson, in about 1882 when he was 14, where he learned the milling business. He was sent to the "Blackfriar's Mill" in London, Ontario where he obtained his apprenticeship. D.C.'s father, Robert Thomson, owned the Thomson grist mill and a shingle mill on parts of Lots 10 & 11, Concessions 2 & 3, South Orillia. When Robert died in 1879, his brother James took over the mills and D.C. later helped operate them. D.C. purchased the "The Peoples Mill" in Orillia from Mr. David Miller on 3 August 1898 and registered it as "Orillia City Flour Mills". (The mill had been build in 1887 by Mr. Peter Richie who sold it to Mr. David Miller in 1895). At some point, a Bakery was added to the mill site. In 1925, D.C. purchased the Park Mill from Mr. Herb Vick. Flour manufactured in the mills had the brand names "Royal Quality" and "Star Brand" (they also had "Maple Leaf Brand" but sold that patent to the Maple Leaf Milling Company). Other products produced included "D.C.T. Bran", "Vitamine Hog Feed", "Vitamine Cattle Feed", "Vitamine Chicken Feed", "Utility Hog Feed", "Utility Cattle Feed", "Utility Chicken Feed", "Vitality Hog Feed", "Vitality Chicken Feed", and "Vitality Growing Mash". The formulae for all were purchased from the "Motherwell" Milling firm in England. The Orillia City Flour Mills was destroyed by fire on the night of 5 December 1931. Grant at the residence of the brides father, Isaac Passmore of South Orillia Township, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. Was living in Orillia, Ontario in 1947 when his sister, Jane Robina (Thomson) Bruce died.
