- Married in Hoople, North Dakota. (This varies from Jay Shavers' obituary which says they were married in Bengough, Saskatchewan.) Jean rode a horse from North Dakota, USA when the family came to Canada in 1912 (1913?). (Article in Regina Leader Post, June 22, 1946). Mr. & Mrs. Shaver lived in Manitoba from 1925 until 1931 when they returned to Bengough, Saskatchewan. Jean Shaver was an artist. Jeans oil paintings were done from the store of memories she has accumulated in a lifetime on the range. She lived on a ranch "Trail's End Ranch" and herded cattle all her life. Over the years she has made several hundred models of horses, cattle, cowboys "dioramas" from the clay of the Big Muddy Valley. She wet the clay to work it, then varnished it and painted the model to natural colors. SHAVER - Bengough
Funeral service for Mrs. Jean Adeline Shaver, 74 was held in this community.
Jean Hewitt, was born in Hoople, N.D. and came to Bengough with her parents in 1912. In 1917 she married Jay Shaver and they farmed until 1968 when they retired to Bengough.
Beside her husband she is survived by five sons, Harvey of Edmonton, Archie and Norman, both of Bengough, Bob of Calgary and Kenneth of Coquitlam, B.C.; three sisters, 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
