"Death of Mrs. Simon Thomson
Another of the old settlers passed away on Monday last in the person of Mrs. Janet Thomson, wife of the late Simon Thomson, of Netherby Farm, Forest Home. Mrs. Thomson had been ill for a number of weeks following an attack of pneumonia, which at her advanced age of eighty-four years, took a severe hold on her frail constitution. The late Mrs. Thomson was born in Dumfrieshire, Scotland, and was married in 1857, coming to Canada five years later, when they settled on the Asylum farm. In 1867 they moved to Netherby Farm, where Mr. Thomson's death occurred thirty-six years ago. Three sons and four daughters remain; Mr. David S. Thomson, Orillia; Mrs. A. Edwards, Burk's Falls, and William, Thomas and Misses. Jean, Margaret and Robina at home. Of a family of eight only one sister remains, Mrs. Dan Walker, of Medonte. The funeral was held from the family residence on Wednesday afternoon, services being conducted by the Rev. N.H. McGillivray. The pallbearers were Mrs. Thomson's three sons and her nephew, Mr. Wm. J. Thomson, of Orillia. Interment was made in St. Andrew's cemetery." (Wayne Thomson note: above should read "came to Canada in 1857 and married five years later").
