1909-1922 Day Book of E.W. Scarlett

1920 July 3rd Last will and Testament.

Was a farmer in the Keele and St Clair Area of Toronto . He also had a brick yard and supplie d brick for many of the houses in the West Toronto Area. Also, cut ice from Grenadier Pond i n High Park for sale in West Toronto. Latter purchased a farm on the east side of Dixie Roa d , directly west of Malton Airport.

There is a family story which bears some merit . Apparently E.W. Scarlett when owning the bri ck yard in Toronto Junction was suppling bricks for the building of houses in the area. The builders were his father John Archibald and two other prominent men in the area . There was considerable funds owing when there was a downturn in the economy . The builders, who were a parternship, refused to pay and took the stance that Edward William would not sue for payment since he would be sueing his own father as well. Edward William requiring his money had no alternative than to lodge a legal suite for payment. His father was so embarrassed he left Toronto Junction and went to Armstrong B.C. where he died and was buried next to a Mrs Maria Mary Harding. ( All county court records for York Township were destroyed in 1951 by judicial order)( This story has come down through the St George family line and through the John Archibald family line)
